Snapshot: Gay St. Barths Beaches
sydney on Jul 25th 2009
A few people have asked me about the “gay scene” in St. Barths, and I have to be honest – there isn’t much of one. Going to St. Barths in the Caribbean is all about relaxation and rejuvenation, not hitting up the gay bar scene. If you want to read about some of the hotels, restaurants and things to do, check out my gay St. Barths post.
St. Barths is unique in that it is not as lush as the other Caribbean Islands like Martinique or St. Kitts. St. Barths is really all about the beaches, all 14 of them. See white sand that stretches for miles, and uncrowded spots that are public and free. The beaches at Lorient and Marigot are favored by families, you’ll have to hike over a sand dune to get to Saline (but it’s worth it), Toiny is more wildly beautiful, Petit Cul de Sac is one of the quietest and most secluded. One of the easiest beaches in St. Barths to get to is Shell Beach, accessible by foot from Gustavia, while the hardest to reach is Colombier – you’ll have to hike for a good half hour or take a boat from Gustavia.
