Lesbian Life: London
sydney on Aug 1st 2009
London is THE place to be for lesbian travel or living. Not only is it a cosmopolitan, world class city, it’s bursting with gay and lesbian bars, cafes, restaurants, accommodations, and community groups.
The best gay and lesbian London guide I’ve found is the Time Out Gay and Lesbian London (Time Out Guides) paperback. I’ve found quite a few gay travel guides to be outdated, but this one was published in March 2009. It breaks up gay London into different areas and I recommend it to anyone heading over to England.
You’ll find London is really gay-friendly, no matter which part of the city you’re staying in. Find a comprehensive list of gay and gay friendly hotels in London here.
Gay nightlife in London is also amazing. Recommended gay and lesbian bars based on user reviews and ratings are:
The Oak Bar
9 Green Lanes, Stoke Newington, London
Has a large lesbian following and various club nights.
The Friendly Society
79 Wardour Street, Soho, London
Best pre club for the hardcore gay and lesbian clubber.
Retro Bar
2 George Court, Charing Cross, London
One of the most hopping gay bars in London for the alternative gay and lesbian scene.
I’ve heard really mixed reviews about lesbian hangout Candy Bar (4 Carlisle Street, Soho, London) and Rumours (67-73 Minories, The City, London), so I can’t really recommend them.
